Overview
In 2026, Wei Shihao, the renowned table tennis player, endorsed the classic W81 series from Lei Shen, which has been rebranded and upgraded. The series now includes ‘Super Fiber’ and ‘ZLC Fiber’ options, making high-performance blades more accessible at around 200-300 RMB.
In our previous review, we discussed the Wei Shihao Arc and Sarc. This time, we focus on the Wei Shihao ZC and SZC, which feature external and internal structures, respectively.
Wei Shihao ZC
- Construction: The ZC uses a limba outer ply with an external ZLC fiber, similar to the Mizutani ZLC structure. It has a thickness of about 5.8mm and features a striking orange, gray, and blue color scheme.
- Performance: The blade offers excellent ball clearance and a long trajectory, making it easy to generate power and control. It feels slightly harder than the Mizutani ZLC, with a bit more rigidity and a ‘snappy’ feel. While it provides good feedback, the control is average.
- Power: The blade performs well with sufficient power, but it lacks the extreme ‘bottom power’ of some high-end blades. It exhibits a ‘hard outside, soft inside’ characteristic, similar to the Butterfly Innerforce Layer ALC.
- Conclusion: The Wei Shihao ZC is ideal for intermediate players who play a fast, mid-to-close range game with quick exchanges and long arcs. It offers a balanced performance at an affordable price.
Wei Shihao SZC
- Construction: The SZC features a limba outer ply with an internal Super ZLC fiber, similar to the Super Zhang Jike ZLC structure. It is priced at just one-sixth of the Butterfly blade and has a thickness of about 5.7mm with a purple, gray, and blue color scheme.
- Performance: Unlike the Super Zhang Jike, which is known for its easy power and speed, the Wei Shihao SZC has a completely different feel:
- Low to Medium Power: At lower power levels, the blade feels almost like a pure wood blade. The super fiber acts like a ‘resilient net’ that doesn’t engage, resulting in a lack of rebound and a slower speed.
- High Power: When sufficient force is applied, the blade exhibits a solid ‘inner hardness’ with excellent support and a controlled arc. It doesn’t feel overly elastic like the Super Zhang Jike, making it suitable for both tensor and Chinese rubbers.
- Conclusion: The Wei Shihao SZC is designed for advanced players who can generate good power and play a controlled, consistent game. It offers a unique ‘soft outside, hard inside’ feel, providing a strong core support that is rare in blades within the 300-600 RMB range.
Final Thoughts
The Lei Shen Wei Shihao ZC and SZC blades offer distinct performance characteristics at an affordable price point. The ZC is perfect for intermediate players seeking a fast, responsive blade, while the SZC caters to advanced players looking for a blade with a strong core and controlled power.
