Mushroom Field Guide: The Hexagonal Paddle, Stiga Cybershape Wood
This installment’s star: the hexagonal toy, the Stiga Cybershape Wood (FL CS).
Quick Take
-
Ever since the Cybershape (Cybershape Carbon) blade came out, Stiga has been churning out all sorts of hexagonal blades nesting-doll style, and the Cybershape Wood is one of them.
-
The tech-styled box and the even, fine limba wood grain show that the Cybershape Wood’s material selection is quite good.
-
The hexagonal design enlarges the sweet spot and the power of the strike, but it also makes gluing on the rubber harder.
-
Five-ply all-wood construction: limba outer ply plus ayous middle plies and a paulownia core.
-
I glued on one vertical-grain and one horizontal-grain rubber and posted the photos for everyone to appreciate.
PS: The contents of the Mushroom Field Guide are all the author’s subjective impressions. Rubbers vary from piece to piece, and results also differ depending on the blade you pair them with. Comments and corrections are welcome.
