Mushroom Field Guide: MAGNES Hexer Powergrip H 52.5
This installment’s star: MAGNES Hexer Powergrip H 52.5.
Quick Take
-
The MAGNES Hexer Powergrip series is one of MAGNES’s top flagship lines, on par with the Omega 7 series, but it’s even more niche than the Omega series — many people don’t even know it exists.
-
The classic black sponge and the familiar surface tuning make it instantly recognizable as a MAGNES product. This Hexer Powergrip is hardness “H,” 52.5 degrees, bare weight 67.2g — surprisingly light — and priced over 300 yuan.
-
Tacky topsheet. Judging by the hardness, it’s positioned for the forehand. But it’s quite rare for a top-tier ESN German rubber to weigh 67.2g.
PS, an important note: with the light weight, the sponge’s actual feel is softer than its labeled hardness suggests — think of it like a Yasaka medium-hard Rakza. So I’d judge that this rubber works just as well on the backhand; it won’t feel very hard. The customer featured at the end of this article also mounted it on the backhand of a Cho Daeseong.
- According to the product description on the packaging, the Hexer Powergrip strikes a good balance between power and precision, speed and control, reaching a fairly high standard.
PS: The contents of the Mushroom Field Guide are all the author’s subjective impressions. Rubbers vary from piece to piece, and results also differ depending on the blade you pair them with. Comments and corrections are welcome.
