First Look: Sanwei 75.1 with Red Fiber
Welcome to this issue of the Mushroom Field Guide, which is purely a public-interest column meant as a reference for fellow players. Today’s subject: a brand-new release, the red-fiber Sanwei 75.1.
Mushroom’s Quick Take
-
The Sanwei 75 series is the flagship product Sanwei used to charge back into the mid-range market, and it earned an excellent reputation after launch. Today’s Sanwei 75, however, is a little different: it’s gone red!
-
As an authorized Sanwei dealer in Guangdong Province, I got my hands on the first release of the new 75-series product, the “Sanwei 75.1.”
-
The handle has been changed to red, and the outer material layer is now red fiber. In terms of positioning, it sits above the Sanwei 75 and below the Super 75 — it’s an in-between product.
-
The box is the traditional small black box, with looks on par with the deep-blue Sanwei 75. What I personally like is that the 75.1 uses a new dark-red logo plate — pretty cool.
-
In the same lineage as the Sanwei 75, it has a thickened large core. The workmanship is solid and by the book, with full fish-scale veneer all around.
-
The feel when bouncing the ball is very crisp, a touch stiff. The rebound height falls between inner ALC (Hina Hayata H2) and outer ALC (Fan Zhendong ALC). My guess is that this is a close-to-mid-range fast-attack blade. As for the exact performance, I’ll report back after I’ve test-played it. If you’d like to buy one, you can contact me — pre-orders come with a free cleaning kit!
Thanks for reading, everyone! Work has been really busy lately, so I’ll resume updating the account starting this Friday.
PS: Everything in the Mushroom Field Guide reflects the author’s subjective impressions. Rubbers vary from sheet to sheet, and pairings with different blades will change things too. Comments and corrections are welcome.
