Mushroom Field Guide: Butterfly Tenergy 05 FX

This installment’s star: Butterfly Tenergy 05 FX rubber.

Quick Take

  1. This time I’m introducing a relatively niche top-tier backhand rubber, Butterfly Tenergy 05 FX. It’s the softened version of T05, Butterfly’s best-selling high-end rubber. Hardness around 32 degrees, bare weight 67.6g. Because Butterfly’s uncut sheet runs on the large side, the actual weight ends up quite light. It’s priced around 470 yuan.

  2. The surface pips are just as full as on T05, and it’s purely a grippy (non-tacky) rubber.

  3. It feels very soft when squeezed, with less support than T05 and a clearly lower power ceiling. But the spin and feel are first-class — both can score above 8 out of 10.

  4. Recommended for junior players, or for amateur-level shakehand and penhold players to use on the backhand.
