WTT Yokohama Champions: Chen Xingtong Advances, Wen Ruibo and Zhou Qihao Exit

The WTT Yokohama Champions 2026 kicked off on August 4th, featuring several thrilling singles matches in the Round of 16.

Women’s Singles

In the women’s singles, Chen Xingtong showcased her composure and skill, defeating South Korea’s Kim Na Young in straight sets with scores of 11:6, 11:5, and 11:7. Reflecting on the match, Chen Xingtong stated, “I last saw her play during the World Championships against Shasha, and she has improved significantly since then. I approached this match with a very positive mindset and focused on countering her strong backhand.” As the defending champion, Chen Xingtong emphasized enjoying the competition and making the most of every point. Her next opponent will be French player Pauline Chasselin, who defeated Zeng Jian of Singapore 3-1.

Representing Macau, Zhu Yuling secured a 3-1 victory over South Korea’s Zhu Qianxi. Zhu Yuling quickly took control with scores of 11:8 and 11:6 in the first two sets. Although Zhu Qianxi fought back to win the third set 11:7, Zhu Yuling regained her composure to win the fourth set 11:6. “This match exceeded my expectations. A month ago at the US Grand Slam, I struggled with her style, but this time I was able to utilize my previous experience and adjust my strategy,” Zhu Yuling commented. Her next match will be against Ukraine’s Solomiya Brateyko, who defeated France’s Yuan Jiayan 3-0.

Men’s Singles

In the men’s singles, Wen Ruibo and Zhou Qihao suffered disappointing exits. Wen Ruibo lost 1-3 to Portugal’s Tiago Apolonia. Apolonia’s unique style, which blends European and Asian techniques, proved challenging for Wen Ruibo. After splitting the first two sets, Apolonia’s confidence grew, and he closed out the match with two consecutive 11:8 victories. His next opponent will be Japan’s Shinozuka Daito, who narrowly defeated his teammate Udagawa Yuki 3-2.

Zhou Qihao also fell to Japan’s Matsushima Kaito with a 1-3 loss. Matsushima capitalized on key points to win the first two sets 14:12 and 11:9. Although Zhou Qihao fought back to win the third set 11:9, Matsushima secured the victory with another 11:9 win in the fourth set. His next match will be against Denmark’s Anders Lind, who defeated Taiwan’s Kuo Kuan Hung in a five-set thriller.
