WTT US Grand Smash Qualifiers: Huang Youzheng Gets Bye, Xue Fei Faces Indian Opponent
The WTT US Grand Smash 2026 has kicked off with only two male singles players from the Chinese national team needing to go through the qualifying rounds. Huang Youzheng (seeded in the 2/8 zone) received a first-round bye, while Xue Fei (seeded in the 7/8 zone) will face Indian player Snehit SURAVAJJULA in the opening round. 
The main draw ceremony is scheduled for June 27 at 02:00 (Beijing time), which is 12 hours ahead of Ontario time. 
Players ranging from dark horses to seasoned veterans and rising stars are aiming to make strong starts and advance deep into the second WTT Grand Smash event of the season. Spectators at the Ontario Convention Center and fans watching via broadcast will witness the top 50 men’s and women’s singles players competing over two rounds on Friday and Saturday for a chance to secure a spot in the main draw, which begins with the round of 64 on Sunday. 
The top seed in the men’s singles qualifiers is Lim Jonghoon (world No. 32), who is the highest-ranked player in the qualifiers. Lim is an experienced WTT Grand Slam competitor, having participated in 10 events and reaching the mixed doubles final four times. The South Korean star has also won a WTT Grand Slam event as a qualifier, claiming the men’s singles title at the WTT Contender Zagreb. 
The men’s singles main draw has four spots up for grabs, with potential contenders including Manush Shah, Feng Yi-Hsin, Park Gyuhyeon, and Huang Youzheng. Shah, the second seed, is the second-highest-ranked Indian player and is in top form, having recently reached the semifinals and won both the men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles at the WTT Contender Lagos 2026. 
Another player to watch is mixed doubles specialist Alvaro Robles. The Spanish player has competed in 10 WTT Grand Slam events, starting from the qualifiers in three of them, and has only failed to advance to the main draw once. At the 2026 Singapore Smash, Robles won all his qualifying matches and reached the round of 32, matching his best performance in WTT Grand Slam events. With his experience in handling the first two rounds, Robles will rely on this to ease into the competition. 
In the women’s singles qualifiers, Australian player Minhyung Jee holds the top seed position. 
Behind the top seed, Jieni Shao and Yashaswini Ghorpade are also expected to have strong chances of advancing through the first two rounds. Players representing the Americas and hoping to cause upsets include Brazil’s Giulia Takahashi (sister of Bruna Takahashi), Laura Watanabe, and Puerto Rico’s Brianna Brugos, Chile’s Paulina Vega, and the United States’ Satya Aspathi. -PingPang Net Original
