WTT US Grand Smash 2026: Preview of Exciting Singles Matchups
The draw ceremony for the WTT US Grand Smash 2026 has concluded, revealing the paths to this season’s second WTT Grand Slam title. From June 26 to July 5, the world’s best table tennis players will gather in Southern California to compete for one of the most prestigious titles of 2026. 
Wang Chuqin Aims for Historic Fourth Consecutive Title
World No. 1 Wang Chuqin returns to the US to defend his men’s singles title, which he won at the inaugural US Grand Smash last year. Starting from the first round (round of 64), he will face Zhou Qihao. Anders Lind, who famously upset Wang Chuqin at the 2024 China Grand Smash, could potentially meet him again in the round of 16. The winner of that match may face Sora Matsushima or Dang Qiu next, while Felix Lebrun and Lin Shidong loom as potential semifinal opponents. 
In the bottom half of the draw, 2025 WTT Hong Kong Finals champion Tomokazu Harimoto will open against local hope Jishan Liang, with Hugo Calderano potentially awaiting in the quarterfinals.
Exciting Women’s Singles Matchups
Last year’s event saw Zhu Yuling’s fairy-tale run to the title in Las Vegas, and she is determined to retain her crown in Ontario. The Chinese Macau star will face a qualifier in the first round. 
Top seed Sun Yingsha is the favorite to dethrone Zhu Yuling. She will open against Liu Yangzi, a rematch of their five-game thriller in last year’s US Grand Smash first round. Although Sun Yingsha prevailed then, she suffered a surprise defeat to Chen Yi in the round of 16. However, having already won one WTT Grand Slam title in 2026, she is in top form and looks unstoppable.
Miwa Harimoto, who claimed her first WTT Champions title in Chongqing earlier this season, is now eyeing her first WTT Grand Slam title. She will face Li Yu-Jhun in the first round. Meanwhile, second seed Wang Manyu faces a different challenge, opening against 15-year-old American wildcard Irene Yeoh. 
Home Nation’s Hopes
With the US hosting the WTT Grand Smash for the second consecutive year, American fans are hopeful for strong performances from their homegrown talents. Kanak Jha, born in Milpitas, Santa Clara County, made history last year in Yokohama by becoming the first American to reach the WTT Champions semifinals.
After exiting the US Grand Smash in the first round last year, Jha’s first challenge in 2026 will be new WTT Ljubljana Star Challenge champion Shunsuke Togami. Another California native, Lily Zhang, will face former WTT series champion Jia Nan Yuan, while rising star Sally Moyland also takes on French opponent Prithika Pavade. Additionally, Amy Wang, who attended the draw ceremony, will open against Japan’s Mima Ito.
