WTT Panagyurishte Entry List Revealed: Japanese Women Dominate Top Seeds
The WTT has released the entry list for the upcoming Panagyurishte Regular Challenge, set to take place from September 8th to 13th. This timing coincides with the Macau Championships, leading to the absence of many top-ranked players from the Panagyurishte event. 
Men’s Singles Seeds
In the men’s singles, the top five seeds are:
- French player Alexis Lebrun
- German player Dimitrij Ovtcharov
- Indian player Sathiyan Gnanasekaran
- British player Tom Jarvis
- Belgian player Adrien Lecerf
According to the latest ITTF world rankings, players ranked 1st to 26th will not be participating in this event. The top two seeds, Lebrun and Ovtcharov, are currently ranked 27th and 28th in the world, respectively. 
Dimitrij Ovtcharov, a world champion, has been focusing on less competitive events due to his age of 38. He is also listed in the WTT Almaty Regular Challenge, where he is the third seed. 
Similarly, Swedish player Kristian Karlsson, also a world champion, has entered both the Panagyurishte and Almaty events. Karlsson is 35 years old. 
Japanese Team’s Participation
The Japanese men’s team is sending mostly second-tier players, with only Yoshiyama Ryoichi and Yoshikawa Ryoichi in the main draw. Players like Sakai Yuuhi, Kizukuri Yuto, and Kawakami Ryusei will have to go through the qualifiers. 
In contrast, the Japanese women’s team is taking the Panagyurishte event seriously. They have secured the top six seeds and have entered four players ranked in the world top 30. 
The top six seeds in the women’s singles are:
- World No. 16 Sato Hitomi
- World No. 20 Nagasaku Miu
- World No. 22 Yokoi Sakurako
- World No. 30 Kihara Miyu
- Akie Natsuki
- Hirano Miu
Nagasaku Miu is also part of the Japanese team for the Asian Games. 
Tournament Context
The overlap of this event with the Macau Championships, along with its European location and proximity to the Almaty event in early September, means that the Panagyurishte Regular Challenge is missing many top-ranked athletes. The participants are predominantly European.
