Wen Ruibo/Huang Youzheng Claim Men’s Doubles Silver at WTT Star Contender Ljubljana

In the early hours of today, Beijing time, the 2026 WTT Star Contender Ljubljana concluded the men’s and women’s singles quarterfinals and the mixed doubles final matchups, with the men’s and women’s doubles champions also being decided.

In the men’s singles round of 16, China’s Xiang Peng faced Wen Ruibo, winning the first game 6:11 but then taking the next three games to advance. However, Xiang Peng lost in the quarterfinals to Brazil’s Hugo Calderano with a score of 1:3.

Among other competitors, top seed Felix Lebrun of France lost in the round of 16 to Japan’s Shintaro Shinuzuka, while Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov defeated Japan’s Yukiya Uda in a tight five-game match. Hugo Calderano, France’s Simon Gauzy, Germany’s Dang Qiu, and Japan’s Shunsuke Togami advanced to the semifinals. Calderano will face Gauzy, while Dang Qiu takes on Togami in the semifinals.

In the women’s singles, no Chinese players made it to the quarterfinals. In the round of 16, Fan Shuhan defeated Kuai Man 3:1, while Shi Xunyao edged out Otomo Sayaka 3:2 in a five-game thriller. Fan Shuhan then lost to Japan’s Hina Hayata 1:3 in the quarterfinals, and Shi Xunyao was defeated by Zhu Yuling 0:3. The semifinals will see Hina Hayata face off against Mima Ito, while Zhu Yuling takes on Shin Yubin for the other final spot.

In the mixed doubles semifinals, China’s Huang Youzheng/Chen Yi lost 0:3 to top seeds Lim Jonghoon/Shin Yubin of South Korea. The Korean pair won the first game 11:7 and the second game 12:10 after a tie at 10:10. They then took the third game 11:6 to advance to the final, where they will face Germany’s Dang Qiu/Winter.

The men’s and women’s doubles finals have also concluded. In the men’s doubles, China’s Wen Ruibo/Huang Youzheng faced Japan’s Togami/Shinuzuka. Despite twice coming from behind to level the match, they lost the decisive fifth game 5:11, with Togami/Shinuzuka claiming the title.

The women’s doubles final was an all-Japanese affair, with Mima Ito/Hina Hayata defeating Otomo Sayaka/Yokoi Sakurako 3:0 to win the championship.
