New Standard for Youth Table Tennis Equipment and Facilities Released
The China Table Tennis Association and the China Sporting Goods Federation have jointly approved and released the ‘Youth Table Tennis Equipment and Facilities’ group standard. 
Table tennis, known as China’s ‘national ball sport,’ has a deep cultural foundation and is widely popular. In recent years, youth table tennis has been rapidly gaining traction nationwide, especially among children and teenagers. 
As the sport expands in schools and communities, the need for standardized equipment and facilities has become increasingly urgent. However, until now, there has been a lack of specific standards tailored to the needs of young players, with existing standards often more suited to adult table tennis or general school sports equipment.
In response to the call for high-quality development in table tennis, to protect the health of young athletes, and to uphold the glory of the ‘national ball sport,’ the China Table Tennis Association and the China Sporting Goods Federation have spearheaded the development of the ‘Youth Table Tennis Equipment and Facilities’ standard. This initiative aims to provide clear guidelines on the safety, specifications, and adaptability of equipment and facilities, filling a critical gap in the industry and promoting standardized development.
The standard emphasizes scientific, applicable, and operational principles, detailing requirements and testing methods for youth table tennis equipment and facilities. For instance, the weight of table tennis rackets is set at ≤200g to accommodate the grip and upper body strength of younger players. The standard also specifies a larger ball diameter of 43.40mm to 44.40mm to reduce the difficulty of hitting and enhance participation. The table dimensions are set at 1450mm to 1700mm × 750mm to 900mm, making them suitable for spaces like classrooms and living rooms. 
The standard also considers the technical capabilities of manufacturers, adopting widely recognized and achievable technical indicators to avoid excessive production costs. This ensures the standard’s broad applicability and feasibility. The detailed requirements and testing methods for product appearance, performance, and safety ensure high standards in terms of safety, reliability, and durability. This standard will serve as a crucial reference for the industry, driving technological advancement and standardization.
