Jang Woojin Re-Signs With Japan T.League Club, Ranked World No. 9 and Targeting the Title
On June 18, Japan’s T.League announced that Korean player Jang Woojin has re-signed with the Kanazawa Port club to compete in the new 2026-27 season.
The new-season Kanazawa squad features two mainstays of the Korean men’s team — the other being Olympic mixed doubles bronze medalist Lim Jonghoon — along with domestic players Tanaka Yuta, Matsushita Daisei and Kobayashi Hiromu.
On the renewal, Jang said he was delighted to keep representing Kanazawa in the T.League: the team fell short in last season’s playoff final, and the new season they will give everything to win.
In 2025-26, Jang went 6-0 in regular-season singles, leading the club to a historic playoff berth. Unlike most foreign reinforcements who focus on singles, he also took on doubles duties, partnering Kobayashi Hiromu in many key matches.
In the finals against Kinoshita Meister Tokyo, Jang shouldered both singles and doubles but lost both, and the club missed out on the title.
Jang is currently world No. 9, the highest-ranked Korean man. He won the men’s singles title at the 2013 World Junior Championships.
In team events he won men’s team bronze for Korea at the 2016 Kuala Lumpur, 2018 Halmstad and 2022 Chengdu World Championships, and men’s doubles silver at the 2021 Houston and 2023 Durban Worlds.
At the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games he took bronze in all four events he entered — men’s singles, men’s doubles, men’s team and mixed doubles.
In 2022 he won the men’s singles and doubles titles at the WTT Contender Slovenia and the men’s singles in Muscat; at the 2025 Hong Kong Finals he won men’s doubles with Lim Jonghoon; and in 2026 he was men’s singles runner-up at the WTT Champions Doha.
After the renewal, his national teammate and doubles partner Lim Jonghoon said he wants to team up with Jang to make up for last year’s final defeat.
