Han Feier and Fan Shuhan Advance at WTT Contender Zagreb Qualifiers; No Chinese Men Make It Through
The qualifying rounds of the 2026 WTT Regular Season Contender Zagreb concluded in the early hours (Beijing Time), with the main draw beginning today.
Women’s Singles Qualifying
Of eight Chinese women in qualifying, only Han Feier and Fan Shuhan advanced. Han won three matches in a row over teammate Zhu Ziyu, Chinese Taipei’s Jian Tongjuan, and South Korea’s Ryu Yui. Fan Shuhan also won three straight, defeating Rapovosa, teammate Wang Xiaotong, and Japan’s Saki Yokoi.
Others ran into unconventional opponents: Yang Yiyun lost 0-3 to Germany’s Shan Xiaona (short pimples); Zong Geman fell 1-3 to Monaco’s Yang Xiaoxin (long pimples); Xu Yi lost 1-3 to India’s junk-ball specialist Mukherjee; defensive player Zhu Sibing fell 0-3 to Sweden’s Carlberg.
Men’s Singles Qualifying
None of China’s four men advanced. Huang Youzheng — who had a bye in round one — lost 1-3 to 46-year-old Greek legend Gionis, the six-time Olympian who famously came from 1-3 down to beat Lin Yun-ju at the 2019 World Championships. Li Tianyang won two matches but fell 2-3 to Germany’s Wido Schöps. Xue Fei (penhold, with a bye in round one) lost 2-3 to Hong Kong’s Ho Kwan-kit. Yuan Licen lost 1-3 to Germany’s Larsen-Foss.
Former China national team player Fang Bo (now Kazakhstan) also failed to advance, losing 1-3 to India’s Bhattacharjee.
Doubles Qualifying
Chen Yuanyu/Chen Junsong beat Slovenia’s Darko/Kozul 3-1 to advance.
