Ding Ning Elected President of the Beijing Table Tennis Association
On the morning of June 7, the Beijing Table Tennis Association held its leadership-transition assembly and the first session of its ninth general membership meeting in Beijing, completing the change of leadership. Ding Ning, Wu Fei, Liu Guozheng, Guan Liang, Zhu Na, Peng Bo, Wang Chunlei, Liu Xiangqian, Zhang Yining, Ren Guoqiang, Zhang Xuejun, Huang Lizhi, Qi Shengnan, Zhang Hongqian, Zhang Jinfeng, Gao Xiang, Li Ya, Wang Ming and Yang Bin were elected as members of the new council.

After the membership meeting, the first session of the ninth council and the first session of the ninth board of supervisors were held. Ding Ning was elected the association’s new president; Wu Fei, Liu Guozheng and Guan Liang were elected vice-presidents; and Zhu Na was elected secretary-general.

At the meeting, Ding Ning said: “Being elected president of the new council fills me with gratitude, and I will always hold this responsibility in awe. I thank all the delegates for their trust, the Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, the Municipal Sports Bureau and the Municipal Sports Federation for their long-standing guidance and strong support, and friends from all walks of life, colleagues past and present, and everyone who cares about the development of table tennis in Beijing for accompanying and helping us along the way. This trust weighs heavily, and this responsibility is a glorious mission. As someone who grew up in Beijing and went from Beijing to the world stage, I have always been a member of the Beijing table tennis family. In the future I will roll up my sleeves and learn humbly, and together with all members think as one and pull in the same direction, doing real work steadily and solving problems conscientiously, repaying everyone’s trust with tangible results.”

Ding Ning added: “Table tennis in Beijing has very deep roots and has produced many outstanding athletes, coaches and practitioners. I am honored to have everyone’s trust and to be elected the new president. When the association was first established I also received a great deal of support, including my senior teammate Zhang Yining coming back to cheer me on, and respected figures in the field such as Wu Fei and Liu Guozheng recognizing me. I hope to use this opportunity to carry forward the fine traditions and strengths of the Beijing Table Tennis Association and of Beijing table tennis, and to keep promoting and popularizing the sport. The Beijing association has already done very well; first, I must take this responsibility and trust and, through the new leadership team, keep pushing it forward and putting it into practice. At the same time, I hope to make a bigger contribution in national fitness events, in the multi-dimensional selection and training of young players, and in the integration of sport and education.”

After the meeting, Zhang Yining offered her congratulations to Ding Ning: “I am very happy to be elected to the council of the Beijing Table Tennis Association. Beijing is where I was born and raised, and wherever I go I have always had an inseparable bond with it. I hope to support the work of my junior teammate Ding Ning, to help develop more outstanding talents who can be sent to the national team and shoulder national responsibilities, and to do solid grassroots work and build good platforms. This is my first time taking a post in Beijing since retiring, and I am very glad to do so.”
